Bass Music Wiki

Hardbass (aka Hard Bass or Poky House) is a Hard House subgenre that originated in Russian nightclubs in the 1990s. Hardbass is usually at a fast tempo (usually 150 - 165 bpm), but can be as slow as 60bpm. Hardbass features many subwoofers and supersaws, with heavy kicks as percussion, with the occasional snare. One of the defining things of Hardbass are donks.

Popular Culture[]

Hardbass became very popular and widespread when memes were created about the eastern European "Gopnik" stereotype, stereotypically a street-trash, uneducated, smoker, alcoholic, and Hardbass obsessed person, in the eyes of the western Internet. In 2015, a DJ name Apartje. released a track called "Cheeki Breeki Hardbass Anthem" using the bandit radio from the game S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl, popularizing Gopnik memes, the "Cheeki Breeki" meme, and Hardbass even more, leading to the rise in Hardbass popularity and many other European DJs have come up as well.
